No pics but had a near breakdown in the 250 TD end of last week. It started missing occasionally and losing power then recovering whilst I was in the cotwolds last weekend, kinda alarming on the motorway, then it got worse while commuting last week, almost stalling at the traffic lights. Also wouldn't rev out to redline anymore when overtaking. I thought it might be vapour lock as I glugged a bit more petrol into the recycled chip fat this last batch than i normally do but I think that was a red herring.
However, I could see loads of air bubbles coming into filter housing from the fuel heater so I bit the bullet and fitted a throwaway inline clear diesel filter and hooked that directly up to the lift pump thus bypassing both the fuel heater and the stock pre filter- problem solved and it starts instantly now rather than cranking over a few times and spluttering into life.
The air leak was definitely from the fuel heater which I doesn't appear to do any heating til its really cold, if ever (it has a thermostat built in) so it's not great loss even running on veg oil- probably time to fit a small flat plate heat exchanger.

Finished repainting the calipers and wheel hubs today. I did one side yesterday and my back was complaining so left the other two until today.
Not perfect but far better than before. Finished off deep cleaning the wheels , waxing then using tyre dressing.

Offered my new friend a ride in mine!
I was out on my walk earlier when my path was crossed by an Austin 3 Litre pulling into its drive. I stopped to say “ you don’t see many of these” and an hour later had experienced a mini tour of the guys collection!
He has his main collection in a nearby village but at his home he showed me his lovely ‘53 XJ120 and a mid fifties Bentley under wraps.
I can’t wait to see the main collection o_O

Very nice - which brand caliper paint did you use for them?

It's not specifically caliper paint. I used Hammerite smooth silver from a pot, although it can be found in a spray can.
Having used the same paint on the brake discs of a previous E55, the paint seems to stand up well to high heat so I don't expect peeling or decolourising on the calipers.

As I'm attending a GTG at BOTG on 13th May, I used the nice weather today to give the wagon the once over. No more sunny days forecast between now and then so didn't want to miss the opportunity of giving it a good clean. I do like a freshly polished obsidian black wagon, but know full well it won't last long. Nice clean engine bay too. 20230503_105051[1].jpg 20230503_104950[1].jpg 20230503_110840[1].jpg

Loaned it my son for a few days until he decides what he wants to buy as he sold his on Motorway at the weekend. If anyone is looking for a good E220d it’s for sale with Hampton Cars. Big thumbs up to Motorway it made more on their trade auction than he was offered P/E against a newish 530d.

Thanks AMGeed I am considering doing the 207's as a bit tired + an overhaul of Calipers. Yours look good.

Didn't fit any brackets!!
I've been looking for some to mount my iPad Air to use as a sat nav but couldn't find any that wouldn't damage the leather or veneer.
However today I decided to finalise a decision and I don't need any! :D
It fits nice and snug as shown and so far there's no movement so I don't think I need brackets.
I'll tether it to my phone for t'interweb and use Waze as the sat nav. Sorted!
