I'm sniffing around a 97 S500 advertised on this site but not made my mind up yet. I'm a bit worried about ongoing maintenance costs on that one!

Already has a list of things that need doing, none of which will be particularly cheap

What about a W208 CLK320? Mine is still going great - 1999 V-Plate.

TBH, IMO even with the rust issues, the W202 C-Class might be the best overall car that Merc has ever built. For £2k you'll get a good one.

Yes, I'd like a 209 coupe 320 or 500. Would even consider selling my fantastic 202 C280 if I could find a really good one.

Mercedes, up to 2 grand? For me it has to be the 190.
A car that was built well and should get back at least what you paid when you sell it if you get the right one at the right price.
Most likely more if it's kept in good condition.

For 2k you could get a clk 270 cdi in not bad condition.
