on the basis that what ever length of cable you supply is unlikely to be the right length - too short or too long - stripped & tinned is likely to be best, unless you can increase both sales and profit by offering alternative terminations as a costed extra.

Bugger the connections, I just want to know what it is:D

Haha, well it's called FLASH••A••BRAKE™ - an intelligent adaptive brake light system. Practically the same functionality, as the factory option on modern high-end MBs, but without the complexities of a system, linked to car's computer, etc.

It will analyse how hard you're braking, and will flash the third (or all - up to you) brake light. It will not flash, when vehicle is stationary or slow moving, or when braking gently (i.e. no significant deceleration).

As far as the installation is concerned, it couldn't be simpler: cut the two wires going to the third brake light, and fit the unit inline. It will come with anti-vibration mounting pad, and the best available 3M Dual Lock (400 pins per sq. inch), allowing for safe and secure mounting, and easy removal.

FLASH••A••BRAKE™ will work with practically any car, and is fully compliant with the MOT test rules (unlike those cheap Chinese strobe thingies).

I'm about two months away from launch, and will be more than happy to offer a nice discount to forum members :D

It does sound very interesting I have to say. Do bear in mind my last PM, there is a margin's worth of margin in what I said ;)

Oh, absolutely!

I feel so very lucky to have to come across someone with such a remarkable level of expertise in the field. And a fellow MB enthusiast as well :D

It's a "lifestyle" business, not an investment project, I'm out!

a mock-up of the unit:

Why 4 wires? Surely the same can be achievable with a Common Earth?

Absolutely! But it will probably be easier (and less confusing) for a non-specialist to just "cut and fit", rather than "cut the red wire and splice into the black one"?

Great advice about Wago connectors - I shall add that as another possible extra option.

Another point. The choice of cable colours. Those of us old enough to remember that domestic wiring went from Red +ve to Brown +ve, might be inclined to connect the Red of your product to the Brown on the vehicle which, on my car is Earth!

I can't remember the Lighting colour (+ tracer), is it green? If so, then I would suggest Brown and Green might be better colours for the wires.

Wago also do a 3 way terminal in the same range.;)

Edited to add that Screwfix do a 'Starter Kit' of Wago connectors for not much money. You could then more explore their basic range before committing to a specific product item.

On my car it's red/black for the third brake LED light, but it's a very valid point and is a serious concern.

The best way would be to check the wiring diagram for every model, but it is not practical.

Or you could just get the Wago rep in to discuss :D or Alex B from Molex :)

Just use red & black, put a +ive and -ive label clearly on each and make sure your installation instructions are very clear. Simplest and cheapest way to do it.

Flashing brake light, whilst the car is stationary is an MOT failure, whether it's a third brake light or not. Interestingly, not having the third brake light lit up at all, is not an MOT failure.

Our unit is therefore fully compliant with MOT rules, as it will not flash when the car is stationary or slow moving.

The cheap Chinese strobe jobbies, on the other hand are a certain MOT failure. And an awful irritant to anyone stuck behind!

Trust me - I tried perhaps every product available on the market.

Checked with mot station and their rules state that brake lights ( norma not including third lightl) must only show a steady light at all times, the new lights with Mercedes are under question within MOT. See the article and published rules shown by the other Mercedes forum
All the cars within my family have 3rd light that gives 10 flashes then goes steady when first seen at the mot was questioned and then confirmed this was ok as it was the 3rd light.
Modules are supplied by UK distributor legal as per Ferrari .....good luck with the project.
