Sorry wez, my mistake, the wires/loom i referred to in my previous posted photo go down to the oil level sensor on the side of the crankcase and a wire splits off from there to the air con compressor......The wire for the stepper motor has a 3 pin plug fitted and is from the same point as the flywheel sensor and starter motor solenoid wires, so as Alex said, for sure the cut wires will be for the s/motor.

hi alex you were right about m.b not being very helpfull in ordering these low cost parts they said i would have to order a wireing loom to get the the electrical plug connector im look for if i cant get a second hand one would it be possible to to work out which wire goes to which conection so as to conect the wires individually. they were also looking for £200 for the 5 injector pipes from the common rail to the injectors which i need,is there any way i can make these or any other m.b vechicle i can get these from that you know of ?

As above, secondhand is the way to go for the pipes and other bits and bobs.

I found an e270 yesterday for breaking and got the parts I need for my ml270 from it i.e( maf sensor, injector pipes, electrical plug for stepper motor etc) all the bits fitted fine so happy days. I tried starting it for the first time but no joy the battery was stone flat and when I put the jump leads from my clk I just got a click when turning the key most likely not enough power from the small battery in the car but unusually when I crossed the starter the engine turned but didn't fire anybody's thoughts on this. (to my relief it's not seized anyway) I think I will go buy a new battery today a give it another shot

If the original battery has been left 'stone flat' for some time it's probably knackered by now and jump starting from a donor battery with your u/s battery still in situ will not work, the u/s battery will act as a massive dump resister from the donor battery. A new one is the solution.

Well after quite a lot of confusion over diesel shut off valves I finally got my ml up and running with the help of a new battery. It had quite a lot of warning lights on the dash but seemed to drive ok for approx 10 min then the battery light began to flicker and all the dash lights came on one by one and then the engine cut out I removed the alternator and had it checked I was told oil had leaked into it ( i think from the oil seperator )and it was beyond repair so I fitted a new alternator today (I found removing the wing liner and the support bracket to the alternator very helpfull but not a must ) the jeep is driving ok now only some dash lights have stayed on ie bas/ESP , ets , epc & abs and the jeep seems very unstable over uneven ground the ESP button , low range button , cruise control or abs are not working also. Does any know would these systems just need resetting on a computer or do all these systems have faults I pray not and would these light being on make the jeep feel so rocky and unstable or do they all feel a bit like this
Regards wez

After reconnecting the battery, the esp light will remain on, you need to start the engine and then fully turn the steering from lock to lock 2 or 3 times and the esp light should then go off.

Cruise and abs faults are commonly related to a duff brake light switch.

Low range will ONLY engage when the engine is running and the gear shift is in position 'N'

The ml is a very stable vehicle, with or without the various safety systems in operation. Check tyres pressures?

Have you tried resetting the steering angle sensor?

With engine running, turn steering all the way to both locks, then back to the center.

Thanks Panasonic I tried this and the lights remained on. Is there a way of checking the brake light switch the brake lights are working fine and perhaps I have a suspension problem as well it's just when I cross a manhole cover, railway lines or a pot hole etc, the jeep just gets giddy on me. There are 275/55/17 tyres on it may be they have something to do with it

Thanks also Alex just gave it another try there. Do I need to drive the jeep after for the light to go out I noticed that all the lights go out after start up and then reappear in 2 seconds or so at exactly the same time

The brake light switch has double contacts inside, one set is for the brake lights and the other set control other 'esp', etc, functions, so the brake lights working doesnt mean the switch is ok. For the same reason, the cruise control also wont work when this switch goes bad.

The tyre size is the same as mine, perhaps you have too much pressure?........i put 32psi all round.

i have had a look through from beginning but as i'm new to this i thought it would be best to ask the question.. for leaks etc.. didn't fancy any unexpected squirts with nothing to hand.
