£738.00 altogether.

Good to see the costs didn't go beyond the original quote.
Hopefully you'll get a good bit more service from it now before it gives trouble.
Fingers crossed on the MOT....

i have to say, after all the issues with the S280 and then the nissan, theres a part of me wants this old astra to go straight through the MOT with little more than a few advisories.

we have all been there, where we wanted a car of a certain type, regardless of whether it made sense or not, and many of us have at some point given in to temptation (im struggling to resist an old land rover at the minute but i know something isnt right with it) despite everyones advice to avoid!

I think it will probably go through this years MOT okay Pete, I think next years will be more of a challenge when it's experienced 18 months in real world conditions rather than a nice cosy garage for over 95% of its life...

I wonder why the previous and one and only owner since new in May 1991 only covered 200-300 miles per year between MOT's in recent years? Was it ill health? Was it lack of need for a car?
I wonder why it was kept garaged for many years as well? Then again that's a good thing surely?

Hi turbopete, I would just like to add that the current MOT done last February has no advisories! Hopefully that's a good sign!

Since MOT's became computerised in 2006 it has only failed once on a constant joint velocity gaiter issue which was rectified and passed accordingly. I have noticed that there has been an oil leak mentioned as an advisory on quite a few of the recent MOT's. Apart from that recurrent oil leak the only other advisories have been for tyre tread depth and nothing more sinister. It looks very positive, let's keep our fingers crossed.

I have people near me that only do maybe just 1000 miles in a year, they do a food shop once a week and that is it.

I imagine the same applies to the lady who owned it before me!

Some old ladies (and men) when very old will only ever venture out on one route only, they know it and the only route where they feel safe as they have been doing the same route for years on end, based on the fact the the older you get, the less you eat (not in all cases) the car gets used less and less.

I have only done 3k miles in my late SL last year.
