Heard on the radio this morning about the government forcing the ban of petrol, diesel and hybrid cars by 2035.
What are peoples thoughts and opinions on this?
Not sure what to think, i personally dont think theres a good enough infrastructure in place to make everyone come over to pure electric in 15 years!

My guess is they want to stop the production and sales of new petrol/diesel vehicles. Whether they'll ban the use of existing vehicles is probably nore problematic. Might even make the last of the ICE cars very valuable :)

I think it refers to pure petrol/diesel vehicles and not hybrids.
Cue a number of manufacturers developing token hybrids that can drive the minimum acceptable distance on battery (they're called mild hybrids).

According to the BBC https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-51366123

A ban on selling new petrol, diesel or hybrid cars in the UK will be brought forward from 2040 to 2035 at the latest, under government plans.

IMHO they're trying to un-invent the wheel .....

There's no suggestion that Petrol, Diesel, and Hybrid cars will be banned. Just that no new ones will be made. I wonder if the Japanese, Germans, Koreans Etc will follow suit? Otherwise Britain will just go on importing cars, much as we do now.

On the BBC this morning it was quite explicit - SALE of all Diesel, Petrol and Hybrid cars will be banned/brought forward
This will be interesting to see how the industry reacts (of which I’m affected in a way)...doubt anything major in the next 5 years - hopefully I’ll be retired by then and I’ll just walk everywhere
I’ll get my bus and rail pass this year anyway......

But you won’t be able to buy them either...

This is just to put pressure on manufacturers to increase R&D into EV and Hydrogen powered cars which is quite right. Personally I’d question the banning of Hybrids by 2035 the full EV infrastructure just won’t be ready

Well assuming the 40 year rule for classics having no mot or tax requirements then all pre 1995 cars have just become more valuable. End of the line.

Also no mention of vans or lorries or buses which relative to cars are the polluters i would have thought.

Personally i think it will not happen, climate change will be a word from the past like acid rain.

Smart + others :)
What will the gov tax when they loose the revenue from fuel? Plus think of the job losses, no oil changes, no air filters to change etc etc and the queue at charging stations at m.way services will be massive. :(

There really are so many elements of a wholesale switch to electric powered vehicles that simply will never work.

Politicians know this but go through the motions so they can be seen to be trying to reach targets set by a bunch of communists who have never done an honest days work in there lives..

But I suppose it won't apply to military vehicles, aeroplanes, shipping. Oh, only the private individual gets stuffed...

At least we lived through the golden age of the internal combustion engine.....
