I'm afraid I only like the ambient lighting when the car is at a standstill, as a show type thing.
I think it's to much of a distraction while driving.
Personally I hate it when someone answers their phone in the car when it's dark while I'm driving.
I think perhaps that it's down to the fact that I suffer from astigmatism which results in blurry vision. As long as I wear my specs I'm fine to drive but, I prefer not to have the distraction in the car at all if possible, hence my love for the hands free system in the car. Merc's is one of the best I've used, clear, precise and rarely breaks up. I love it.
My C207 has a couple of tiny red/amber down lights on the interior mirror which very dimly lights up the gear lever and infotainment system control knob, I can live with this as it's very subtle, in fact I only really notice it when I'm out in the countryside and it's completely dark in the car, it's almost invisible when I'm driving in town or city.
