Hi,
Got a 2006 e class estate where both rear suspension bags will not inflate. Was told it could be sensors, does this sound right.
TIA
Dave

Have a you good merc indy at hand.

Being told "could" can cost, it could be the bags, it could be the compressor, it could be a valve, it could be a seal, it could be a hose,.

You need a competent garage with a reader.

It could be sensors but which...

Thanks for that, last owner was told it was sensors and he had fault codes but i can't find his message. Are all four sensors the same or are they handed. Worth taking a punt because they are fairly cheap, even better if anyones breaking same car.

With ignition on and engine running you should be able to feel hear the compressor running...if the system is calling for air ...its in front of the passenger front wheel. behind a cover
try that first.
the only sensor i'm aware of is the level sensor mounted onto the rear axle near the diff
if the mounting, connector arm has broken that could cause it not to lift.
air pipes broken could be the cause theres not a lot of air flowing so you may not hear it.

Thats how the slippery slope of chucking money at the car starts. As said merc indy and codes read.

Pay once pay right.
This. So, so, so much this.

Cheers mate i'll have a look /listen. Another quick one does this S211 have air suspension all round or just the rear. Googled it but get no firm answer and will not get chance to look for a few days.

I restore Lambrettas and used to restore classic cars so know all about money pits and have still learned bugger all . Why do i do it ‍♂️♂️

Classic cars a different kettle fish as they dont have odb scanners to point to faults, with classics you dont stop until its all perfect.

In this case a scanner will point to the problem so one knows what needs to be fixed and where to put the money - job done

Generally e class estates only have rear air suspension ( they all have it though) springs at the front
as above i would guess that the pump for £1800 is the braking pump (sbc) rather than the air pump ( £100 on ebay >£500 merc)

Yes it is the SBC pump that was replaced.
Just been out and air pump is working, rear suspension went up then n/s rear went down straight away. Both front are right down and didn't move. On inner wing next to n/s front strut top is what looks like an air valve. Could front be air also.
Regards.

Thats a earth point near the strut..the brass part
can you see a spring through the wheel?
if the rear goes up and goes straight down on one side I’d say a strut leaking…if the pipe was bad it wouldn’t go up.
these struts have electrical valves in the top to let air out when the system is too high so when its pumped up it should stay there unless the bag is leaking

Ok latest update, n/s rear airbag was leaking but no fault lights on dash.
I replaced this airbag with a new one now there is a suspension too low coming up on dash and it will not pump up at all. Pump does run for a few seconds but thats it. Something obvious or does it need diags ?.
TIA Dave

Mainly Mercedes
When replacing the air bags you shouldn’t expect the compressor to pick it up from the ground. There is a proceedure to follow to initially inflate them. It’s possible your compressor has overheated.

You said the front was low, but you haven't said you've fixed anything there?

My front suspension looked like your pic when the coil spring broke.

As it's self levelling, when front was on the deck, back was too.
