Yeah as sadly MB in their wisdom decided to put everything including the kitchen sink in the V and the oil cooler sits cosily right at the bottom.
yep, wisdom best way to describe :)

Every Indy has loads of experience of Oil Cooler Seals, £10 of parts and 8 hours to do it
true... I am used to eastern europe where the wrong garage will leave you with a few less genuine parts and a few extra non-genuine ones after you pick the car up - am I pretty good on that risk here in the UK?

Yes, it’s almost right of passage with the OM642, most of us have been there my E350cdi was done last year and I sold it this year so the new owner can look forward to no oil cooler seal blues.

The new oil seals (improved part) are coloured purple the old seals are orange still have them as a trophy in my garage lol
you and my mate both with your orange trophy's :p

Any workshop that swaps out genuine parts and replaces them with inferior aftermarket parts wouldn't last long in the UK. They'd soon be found out.

If you own a Mercedes that is outside of warranty in the UK, the best move you can make is to find a local independent Mercedes specialist and use him to service and repair your car. They will have Mercedes diagnostic equipment and use OEM parts and be able to update your service history online, keeping your record.
If you want to mention your current location maybe someone can recommend a good indy.

Still learning the UK ways :)
Thanks again for your suggestion on the other thread.

Hi, do you have experience replacing the oil cooler seals and the sump on an ML350 diesel?
Yes.

We've probably done a thousand or so....

Hi , looking for recommendations for Independent Mercedes Service that can also run diagnostics/updates using TSB's . I have a 09 CLK 350 that needs service A, and it takes forever to engage reverse (which I have a TSB for that I picked up from a US forum, which evidently solves the problem). Anywhere close to Tunbridge Wells, Sevenoaks . Thanks

2.5 hours drive for a proper job. cmon

What I was thinking! I never bathed an eye lid travelling f to Westbury from Berkshire/Nottingham.

A good job is cheaper than repeated messed up jobs and there’s been reports of many garage messing up the turbo and other parts when doing this job.

I have in the passed had some very good 3 year service plans, but the current one is £1,620 so I thought I would go independent for my next A service on the SLC250d.
My local independent quoted £312, Mercedes Stafford £287, Mercedes Tamworth £222.
Any observations please, not what I expected.

The £222 all day long :) . Ask if they will give you a further 10% off as you own a Mercedes .

That doesnt compute to me. An A Service with me would be £190. £300 for a B. Sounds like your Indie has quoted you for a B or an A Service with some additional service items that havent been quoted by the dealer.

I would double check that.

Seriously, I used to travel 4 hours to Westbury several times a year for routine servicing and brakes.

2.5hrs for someone who in the long run will save you repeated trips and so the job right first time is a small price to pay. But each to their own I guess..

Have you checked what it needs? When Exeter MB called me they quoted for a basic service not really looking into what it needed. Always ask what it involves then compare

Best way it so use this calculator:

TSB's (TIPS as MB calls) and Updates are two completely seperate things.

That said, I belive you are booked in with us, so I will discuss in person :)
