Hi,
Can anyone help, I purchased a 65 plate S500 in December from a Mercedes dealer and I am very unhappy about the ride quality, it seems very harsh over any road repairs and slight bumps and a fair bit of road noise through the car, also at around 70-80 mph there is a noticeable resonance through the car the back parcel shelf vibrates slightly along with the passenger seat.
I mentioned it to Mercedes when it was in the other day and their mechanic confirmed the ride quality, Mercedes said I should try changing the tyres but I feel its something more than this.

I had the CL500 4.7 before this and that ride was worlds better than the new one.

What wheels and tyres do you have fitted?

Also car takes at least 30-40 seconds to raise and lower.

I expect if it had magic ride, you'd probably have been informed when it was sold to you, it can scan the road at 70 mph and spot 2mm or bigger issues and pick the wheels up and over them.

our roads are in terrible condition, anything over 18" is unlikely to have decent ride quality, on bmw most of the 19" rims physically crack with air loss / worse (and I heard the same afflicts some mercs with 19", but not seen myself)

some tyre brands and correct (or slightly lower) pressures will make a big difference

Don’t see magic ride here...
Suspect it’s the 20 in tyres - I’d drop to 32 and see if that helps ....

I'm with JL above , try 32 and see how you get on.
Your comment about the car taking 30-40 seconds to raise and lower .
I don't understand that side of the suspension . Hopefully someone else can comment on whether or not that is correct for the car ? Or if it would have logged a fault code for it ?

+1 for tyre size, and pressures, drop them to 32 and considering smaller wheels. The pressures will be so that the car can meet efficiency and emissions targets.

I have not had a 222/217 ABC equipped car in, so cannot comment on the speed, but W220/221 cars with ABC raise in about 5 seconds, 30 seconds seems excessively slow but if its not giving warnings on the dash, then its probably nothing to worry about.
