Mercedes a class w176
Bought a 64plate Mercedes a class w176 which has the 1.5 Diesel Engine. It had front end damage and started up but leaked coolant quickly. So I Replaced the Rad pack, slam panel, one head light and bumper. Now the car is back together all ok sort of. It wont fire up nothing not even trying to crack all lights on dash power up but that's it. noticed the indercator stalk has also now stopped working.. I've had to a auto electrician who is telling me hes spend 4hours onit and cant read anything through the diagnostic wont allow him.. PLEASE ANYONE

Hello and welcome

Where are you located? Some very good indies on here.

Star diagnostics is what you need to interrogate your car.

Working on the principle that if something did work and now doesn't look at what you did I'd be checking everything you disconnected and go from there.

Last thing changed is first thing suspect.
Always.

Checked all the wiring to the lights and the radiator and have power going to them. Hear a clock sound from the engine when I turn the key to start but nothing.

There's two wires going into a sensor on the positive battery terminal what is that for?

Also why wont it be allowing the auto electrician to read the engine,ECU codes.

Could I have immobilized the car which the battery going flat ?

As above, where are you based?

Having a chat with a local indy (and even a Star read) may save you time, money and frustration

Near High Wycombe. The car has been unloved for some time and when my wife said lets scrap it I lost the head!! I was running it till late last november and have only just started this journey. It would always start after a charge but sadly not this time. I have put a meter on the battery and it is reading 11.9 v so it should have at least tried to turn over. Pardon my ignorance but what is an indy? Independant garage?

Correct.
You are not too far from Reading - easy roads.
Try Starmotorservices.co.uk on Send Road, Reading.
He's a Merc Indie and often posts on this forum.

11.9v is way too low. ECUs won't initialise if it's that low.

I was a bit slow there.
As LK says.
11.9 is almost classed as a flat battery.

A fully charged battery should read 12.6V - 2.1V per cell, as above modern electronics don’t like under voltage so an old battery is always suspect

A battery is as said a basic starting point but I thought you had an auto electrician on it ?

Surely in the 4 hours he tested the battery ?

Plastic67 is a new poster on an old ops intro thread, was the original op had an auto spark on it!
This is why I wish folks would start a new thread rather than resurrect one from several years ago...
