Hope somebody can offer a bit of advice to a non technical buffoon!

W212 parking brake is not releasing every time. Sometimes takes a second tug on the handle.

The 'clunk' release noise has gone. All silent now.

Had new front brakes a couple of weeks back and asked indie to check parking brake. Said it was ok at the mechanism and said it had been greased and should solve it.

The clink was always reassuringly there. Concerned about MOT failing.

Any ideas?

Cheers,

Paul

For this reason I rarely used the parking brake on my 212s and 230...
However you do get used to using your left foot to pull up the foot brake at the same time as pulling the release handle, plus wedging your head in the footwell and squirting some GT85 up the footbrake mechanism every few months...just part of the fun of the clunky design

I always used my left foot to take the strain off the release mechanism, then let the brake back up gently with my foot.
I also press the button in on “normal” handbrake levers when pulling it up as I don’t like the ratchet noise. Mechanical sympathy and a feeling it’s not the “done thing” especially with passengers onboard.

Seems to be common fault on the 212's during the colder weather, when mine doesn't release I just hook my foot behind the pedal and lift it up.

It seems a common with MBs, just hook the pedal with your foot.

Me -2019 GLC 350 coupe AMG line. Mrs- ford kuga 65 plate awd powershift .
Some cures are .
1.have the shoes nipped up .
2.spray workings inside car as mentioned
3.try for a couple of extra clicks underfoot.

All 3 together should have the pedal popping up with some gusto!!

Just sprayed it as you said. Seems to have eased. Cheers John
