Genuine parts on ebay and Amazon.
Came across this video whilst perusing youtube, sure its not only Lexus.

What worries me is how many non main dealer workshops are using these after market parts but charging
us for the original ? .
There’s not many workshops too happy if you bring your own spares
along for fitment.

.
A couple of years ago (four actually), I bought a set of aftermarket metal-rubber pedal covers for my A200.

There was no doubt I wasn't buying OEM parts (well, £8 cost incl. delivery from China, for all three was a dead giveaway), nor was there any attempt to misrepresent them as genuine.

Imagine my surprise then, when these pedals arrived packed in virtually perfect MB boxes, with all the markings, barcodes and part numbers!

Still have them on and looking pretty good too (apart from parking brake pedal, which was never required for this car), and I already bough a replacement set since (the price dropped to under £7 now), so it's awaiting its time, probably this summer ...

I did some work for a Japanese franchise distributor some years ago. They used to allow dealers to make an annual return and the balloon went up when they found imitation filters being sent in. They did look the same but the writing on the boxes and the filters themselves was Chinese, not Japanese. I would never consider buying fake oil filters - the materials used and micron rating are bound to be below standard.

Can't say for others (I'm sure it's the same), but any MB parts we fit to customers cars, come from MB directly rather than ebay etc.

Allowing customers to supply parts its always a complicated minefield. Who is liable if brakes fail with customer supplied pads and the customer gets injured?

What happens if the supplied part doesn't fit, and we only find out halfway through the job? Do they pay twice or do we charge twice?

Aftermarket stuff does vary significantly in quality as well, not all filters are equal, if course everyone in here knows.

I accept your point entirely,it’s a mine field
Only thing I will add with doing a lot of my own servicing I have used after market parts and because I change them very regularly I find they do the job , I could buy main dealer but then I would still be changing them too often so works out expensive.

Absoutely, if I am doing stuff on my own cars, I sometimes take the changes with aftermarket, depends on what im fitting.
