Hi guys I'm new to this forum I have a 3 year old who wants to watch dvds In the car and I wanted to know if a complete aftermarket headrest dvd monitor and player would fit in my ML 320 cdi without any problems. The ML 2009 I have has electrically adjustable headrest which move up and down in conjunction with the electric seat controls, how does an aftermarket headrest after slotting into the holes in the seat work? is it possible to get it to work the same as the original headrest by using the seat controls?

Can't say for sure, but I think so. IIRC, on the GL, the mechanism to move the headrests is part of the seat, rather than the headrest itself, so an aftermarket should slot in it and work the same way.
Worth checking if it has spring loaded headrests and still is safe with aftermarket headrests. Some later models have a safety mechanism where the headrest is pushed forward in an accident to prevent / reduce whiplash. Not sure if this was fitted to the 164, and if so from what date. It was on my W212 which was 2011.

I think I'd look for screens that just use Velcro straps around the head rest posts :)

I’ll take a picture of how my screen are in the 212, they are part of the seat and independent of the headrest, it’s also not a plug and play job, the wiring harnesses will be needed and comand coded,

So this is how they are on my 212, I’m pretty sure the 164’s are similar

Should have said that this is the factory fit kit so probably overly complex for what you want.
I believe @AMGeed fitted something to his car recently for his grandson that might be a little more like what you were looking for.
