Hi, I am considering getting a reversing camera fitted to my S350SL 2012 I beleive that all the loom is in place as most were optioned with these but not mine. Has anyone asked MB main agent to do this and the costs, also anyone had it done by an after market company (around humberside?). I have heard a cost of approx. £1k is this about right?
Any help or advice on matter will be appreciated.

Dave

Why get a car out if warranty done by MB, unless you like paying double..? ;) find a reputable Indy who will do a far better job instead. Whereabouts do you live?

I had a genuine MB camera kit fitted to my GL by my local indie. He had to run cables the full length of the car (which on the GL is a long way!). Total cost was about £450 IIRC including parts, labour and coding the COMAND on STAR.

MB have a reputation for bespoke looms are don't generally fit wiring if it's not required .... ;)

As EmilysDad says, MB generally don't include unused cabling. The best you are likely to have is a plug on a core loom that needs some extension elements for the camera, plus the camera itself, but you may have to run quite a long loom extension through various bits of trim to get to the connection point. Also, to get the camera on in reverse, as mentioned above, your COMAND / Audio unit will need coding to let it know a camera is fitted.

u don't ever get spare / free wires in a BM or a Merc...

pre wiring (particularly) on BMW (but you see on merc for becker nav and phone systems) buys the optional extra of the loom. never heard of that on a rear camera and it it never covers the licensing of the software to have the feature working

I'd be surprised if a main dealer was interested in fitting a camera... that would involve work out side pouring in £55 quid a litre oil, pretending they pumped up the tyres, denting the doors and making you buy a cup of coffee
