Hi All

I was wondering if anyone has had any experience respraying their Matt paint Mercedes?

Long story short, a car drove into the side of me and damaged the front wing, insurers recommended their approved garage however I have just gone to collect it and I’m not happy with the finish.

Alarm bells starting ringing when they had it for two weeks and blamed the paint supplier for sending the wrong paint twice. When I went to collect it today they told me they resprayed the whole side of the car however comparing it to the other side it looks spotty under the paint and looks more “Matt” than the rest of the car. They’ve said their paint specialist is happy with the job but I’ve refused to take the car back.

Any help would be really appreciated. Photographs attached of the original side (more glossy no spots) and the repaired side and repaired side from the rear.

The Mercedes matt paint finish is costly and highly specialised. Mercedes tried to sell me a car with this finish and I rejected it. The main reason was that Mercedes don't cover this type of paint with their small damage insurance as there are only a few paint shops who are qualified to deal with it.
It's very expensive to maintain if you get any minor damage or wear an tear scratches/chips. Sorry I can't be more help.

I would imagine (but I am not an expert) that like leather the original paint gradually becomes more glossy, just like leather seats. Every wash slightly buffs the paint. If that is right then the new paint will be more matt and it'll be extremely hard to match.

There's a similar challenge with conventional car paint where just using the exact paint code often isn't enough because the colour ages. However paint shops can and do usually tweak the colour to match the car rather than use the colour that the car was when new.

If I were you I'd try to find an authoritative source but I'd also avoid getting the car repainted too much because that may cause other issues with the paint being excessively thick.

Very hard to tell from the photos TBH.
Im not a fan of this paint finish, only my opinion, be a bit boring if we all liked the same.
I think you may have to get an Independent inspection to get a result.
