To effect the tensioner I would suspect that there would need to be a huge loss in pressure not just a small leak. If the loss is big enough to effect the tensioner, you would probably know about it!
Having used Lanoguard, I think its the perfect snake-oil. Needs to be reapplied annually in reality to do 'something'; its a marketeers dream product.
One the initial (insane, admittedly) water repellence wears off (a few months) it seems to do very little.
After about 18 months my unused...
Black death being injector leakage/blow by?
No prevention that I can think of.
When you get it fixed, get the injector seats cleaned/faced as necc along with new seals/bolts. Simply slapping a new seal in is probably not the best way to do it...
Has anyone here had the merc software recall done on the OM651 (2.2L) engine?
I can see lots of posts about one of the other effected engines (3ltr?) and the NOx sensor problems, but very few comments on the OM651/2.2Ltr model
Anyone had it done? How's fuel economy?
I cant quite remember how this all goes together so please do not take as verbatim, but on the OM651 there are two valves that together control fuelling, Y74 and Y94 I think they are called. However, one of the valves, cant remember which has a large influence at startup. I would be looking...
Just an update on this - now fixed.
It turned out to be, what Merc call the on the box a 'Flow Control Valve'. It seems however to go by the unofficial title of 'Quantity Control Valve' or 'Y94'. It is also, incorrectly in my view called a 'Quality Control Valve' on occasions, but not sure...
Ok, new garage door needed - I have decided on an up and over style.
Up and overs come in two variations..
1) Canopy Door - NO horizontal tracks inside the garage, the door instead runs on vertical tracks in the frame and a torsional spring overhead helps counterbalance the door.

TBH, at that sort of mileage if it drives OK, no warning light on dash, a recent ish MOT, a good-ish service history then that is about as good as you can expect second hand. As mentioned, as the mileage goes up so does the maintenance.
There will be bits that need dodging to it no doubt.
I think I have it figured out: I have a new fuel quantity valve to fit but the weather has been so poor have been avoiding it! I will update when fitted.
You are correct about if it ain't broke.. But the bit that niggles me is that, assuming it is indeed this valve, if it fails completely it...
If they take the wiper motor out get them to replace the bodywork o-ring that the motor pokes thru at the same time. Mine was battered due to exposed location at the rear of the van (o-rings are only a few quid)
I found that the remanufactured wiper motors (i bought two) were somehow a slightly different size to OE merc. The output shaft that goes through the bodywork was a loose fit in the O-ring seal of the bodywork, meaning that water would have ingresses into the boot.
Cant remember how i fixed the...
Easy - Did mine a while ago so cant remember 100%, but basically a bolt-out, bolt-in job; remove a few pipes/clips/brackets but not a biggie as access is good from the top
That is the problem. Forums are a tiny sample of ownership and people do not come on to a forum to say 'hey...my car is working great..!' Forums are a biased and unrepresentative sample.
Hi all,
OM651 in a 2012 Viano. 75k miles. Pulls and runs great, hot or cold. No fault codes stored (on my ICarsoft)
Has developed a very slight erratic idle, but only when cold. Idles fine when warm.
By erratic I mean that the revs will change very slightly, for a moment every 3-6...
