Hi all, has anyone ever had to change the flexi pipe for the transmission fluid cooler at the bottom of the radiator ? Mine has deveopled a leak and I wondered if it is ok to change without having to drain or bleed in any way.

Cheers

Hi there

See my thread on flaring gear changes in this section of the forum. I'm having a very similar problem to yours.

If yours is like mine, you'll only have to order the replacement parts, disconnect the old ones, and attach the new ones. You'll get a little bit of spillage, but that can be topped up with the correct amount.

Great stuff - thanks. Part is on order from MB dealer, should be able to change it next week.

Thanks again.

Is yours an automatic? If so, get it dipped at the dealer/indie, or buy a dipstick and dip it yourself.

I've had these cooler pipes disconnected at the radiator side a couple of times to work on my car and the system just pumps ATF back round the pipes once they are reconnected. Just make sure as Parrot says to give the ATF a small top up once the new pipe(s) are on.

I'd be interested to know how you get on with this job so please post back how straight forward it is to disconnect the pipes at the transmission end, as I noticed the lower pipe on my car is a little rusty and I was going to replace it.
