Hi,

When driving my mercedes 500sel (w126) the gears are holding on making it very unpleasant to drive as it just revs & revs in first gear.

HOWEVER, when I pull out the kickdown relay (black box found with all the fuses) and replace with a wire connecting pins "87 & 30" to over ride the fuel pump (so its running all the time even with out the engine running) the gears automatically change fine when driving

Anyone come across this before? your help will greatly appreciated

Regards

Jack

Sounds like a faulty kickdown solenoid or switch - you get all sorts of funky shifting when this goes bad.

It will force the car into first on a standing start and only change when the revs redline.

Should be a simple fix. Try unpluuging the plug onthe kickdown switch, just at the base of the throttle pedal. It's a 4-pin plug - detach and try again. If that stops the problem then it's your kickdown switch. Otherwise likely to be the kickdown solenoid.

Thats right - it only changes when you red line it.

I'll try what you have said.

Many thanks
