OH my goodness I've done it, this wrinkly has just bought his first Mercedes. A replacement for an Audi A3 cabriolet S-Line purchased because of a back injury as the Honda S2000 before it was too hard a ride and a bit impractical. But I hankered after the Honda because every drive was an 'event' to be savoured.
It was black with red leather and I had given up on finding a replacement that was better equipped, more modern and a reasonable comfortable ride.
I wanted to re-live my Honda S2000 days again before I was too old and/or poor health meant a return to a comfy safe boring salon based convertible.
We had only gone out for morning coffee, and decided to check it out on the way home, a 2012 SLK 250AMG Sport Edition 125 metallic black and dark red leather (Bengal), a glass roof and with every toy imaginable. Had a test ride, it was not the harsh ride I had experienced in a friends '06 SLK AMG 200, or as gutless, and management (the wife) LOVED it for she did not want a car that was too low slung.
Better still in macho metallic black, and the current shape it was not as girly looking as I had feared. Cheap tax and insurance and I suspect MPG no worse than the Audi or Honda, & I'll live with the modest storage space, but who cares? I collect it next week from a Chichester independent prestige sports car dealer who made the entire purchasing experience an angst free delight.
Now I have lots of questions about lots of things I want to do to make it my own, but for here & now a belated hello and ta and a medal for reading thus far.
