609d Removing float and pickup

hello, does anyone know how to remove and refit the float and pickup assembly(with strainer) from the tank of a 609d (1991)? I can see the float will unclip (if I could get to it) but it still looks like a camel through the eye of a needle problem. Any help appreciated.......thanks
