My mates Dad has a 2010 1.6 auto Astra and was wondering if it would have a cam chain or belt and at what interval/mileage should it be changed...any ideas guys?

Pretty sure it'll be a belt & if it's the same as other Vauxhalls it'll be 4 yrs or 40k miles. ;)

It's a belt, recommended change is 100k or 10 years.

It should say in the service handbook when the interval is, but I'm sure it's 100k or ten years. Belts today are nothing like they were years ago, most now are Kevlar reinforced. When was the last time you heard about someone with a snapped cambelt?

I can't say specifically for this year of Astra, but not long ago, Vuaxhalls had a belt life of 8 yrs or 80k, which ever came first. But because of a high number of failures (caused by tensioners - not the belts themselves) Vauxhall halved the belt life. Anyway a belt kit will be around £100 plus a water pump will be far cheaper & easier than sorting out 16 bent valves. ;-)

I think the mileage depends on the engine variant. My 1.7 CDTI van is 100k.

I hope thats right as I'm well past 40k/4 years:confused:
