I opened the bonnet yesterday and it then closed itself. It wasn't staying open at the 45 degree angle.

I took out the plastic bit around the wheel arch and a broken spring fell out!

Anybody ever replaced one of these? I'm gussing that the spring is under tension when the bonnet is closed and will be easy to replace when the bonnet is fully open.

You are right young man get the bonnet as high as possible, use a piece of wood, can only be fitted with plastic arch out, reading your other answer about the tail gate, the safest place to stand is in the middle(you havent got gull wing door have you), the easiest way to get the spring on is to put a piece of wire or tough string through the end and pull it, then cut wire/string off.
