Unfortunately can't seem to attach more pics. These are for C180 Elegance year 2000.

if it cranks over but wont start its almost certain to be needing new O rings on the fuel lines

Yes, television that's it - that's the exact key.

Hey turbopete spot on! It's the same key but with the red lens missing. Does that have anything to do with the problem? There were bits of it on at the tip but pieces kept falling off until now when there's none of it left really. A glimmer of hope maybe? :)

There are 2 parts to the key, the unlocking is done via the batteries in the key, when you press a button the LED on the key should also blink with each press.

When the key is in the car it is powered from the cars battery.

As the key will not unlock or turn it could still be the key, it can get damaged with the end cover missing. Try the locking with the key an inch away from the drivers door handle.

I am just not sure with the beam being much dimmer than normal.

Yes the LED blinks fine bright red when I press a button. Yes it does not unlock or turn. I've tried from all possible distances - near the boot near the door handle. Assuming it is damaged with the end cover missing, what do I need to get and from where please? I hope dealership isn't the only option here my friend.

Does that somehow mean if the immobiliser has tripped like fused or something?

I take it this car is a 203, if so the only thing I know is 1 put key in ignition and press any button on the key within 4 seconds.

Leave key in ignition for up to 90 minutes.
