Hello, my car appears to make an engine noise for 2/3 seconds like a loud rattle/disel car start up sound. The dealer has asked me to leave the car for the night as it's usually first thing in the morning.

but, recent days noise is not that noticeable, but is there not to the same extent on cold start ups. the car has covered 15k miles and serviced by mb at 13:5k miles.

All help appreciated.

I had a similar issue with my C180 a few years back. You didn't say what you were doing just before you last stopped using the car. The problem I had was that last thing at night I used to move the car into the garage from the driveway, starting the car up for a few seconds and then stopping
it long before it was fully warmed up. This caused the engine ignition set up to be confused the next morning and the car ran like a dog, and sometimes wouldn't start. If I ran the engine at night until is was warm, and the initial high start up revs had dropped down to normal idle, I had never got the problem again.

I'm speculating, just sounded similar!

Engine Noise

Hi
My SLK makes a noise on cold start up, and I am told it is sluggish hydraulic tappets and nothing to worry about.

I have had a lazy hydraulic lifter for the past eight years and its still the same it has never got any worse, So as the saying goes if it isn?t broke don?t fix it.

hello, and thank you all for the help.

More info - the car usually makes the 2/3 noise when parked up over night, or for several hours in the car park. Recently the noise has decreased and the mileage on car is about 15500.

the car is usually driven for about 6 miles before being parked up - but on the reare occasion, i do move it into the garge after the car has cooled down and does not have enought time to warm up - i will listen out for a noise if it is any worse.

the man at the stealership that repaired the clonking noise on the suspension wanted to keep the car overnight, but i'm certain, knowing my luck ithe noise will not happen. The stealersship man said that a few c class 180k's had a problem with the oil not travelling quickly on start up?

Anymore views - about 20 months warranty remaing, so i may let it deteriorate.

Thanks

Hello, any link/news item to this fault.

the noise on my car only lasts 2/3 seconds and does not do it every time.
