That worked for me too. I also used a wire brush on a drill to get rid of the worst of the baked on deposits inside the exhausts before the anusol.

Edit...... I meant autosol;)

Had another crack with the autosol this eve. Rinsed it, did another round, rinsed it, then did a last round with Meguiar's NXT.

It's got a little bit more of the black deposits off, but still not as clean as I'd like!

Actually seems to be a bit of pitting on the rolled edge. :-(

Had read lots about the stuff, but have been impressed. And not stupidly priced either.

Just need to clean the tyres up... In particular removing the stock markings on them - some sort of wax crayon. Tried car shampoo and wheel brush, no effect. May have to try a bit of washing up liquid very locally applied!

Who put the markings on them? I have never seen brand new tyres with Chinagraph markings, part worns at the breakers, yes. Very odd.

I would be tempted to use just very hot water to get that off rather than any petro/spirit based cleaner on tyres.

Nice looking motor though......

Spot on, they were part worn. (Although with 7mm remaining all round, not exactly spent).

I used a small amount of white spirit on some ki7chen towel, and as soon as it was clean, soaked it in car shampoo/snow foam, scrubbed with a wheel brush, dried, then treated with tyre cleaner/dressing.

Been a week and can't see any untoward marking on the sidewalls, and they got another dose of Autogylm tyre dressing on Friday. Looks a lot better now!

Do try some 0000 wire wool with the Autosol

Will do Malcolm. Will have to get some next time I'm out & about.

Have been using one of those ki7chen sponges, that have a light wire wool backing.

About as much use as t!ts on a fish on exhausts. I found that out a while ago. Believe it or not the wire brushes and cleaning stuff I use to remove baked on carbon from firing a rifle doesn't touch the stuff on exhaust tips if it's been left too long!!

Whereabouts are you? I have some 0000 grade wool but I've run out of 00 grade. It's cheap enough on Amazon though.

Just don't rub too hard with the 00 grade on the outside as you'll marr the tips if you use too much pressure.

On the inside the go as hard as you like.

Only used them as they were the only thing I had to hand that came close.

The inside is no great shakes tbh - the standard AMG exhaust has a rolled edge, but it rolls back in to the "inside", which doesn't appear to be a finished (i.e. stainless) surface.

I shall go for a pedal tomorrow, and find some varying grades of wire wool.

PS. I like t1ts on fish... Makes the aquarium more appealing! ;-)

Not teaching you to suck eggs but this is the process I use.

Apply Autosol with 00 (0000 in your case) wire wool with gentle pressure to leave a thin coating.

Let it dwell for 10-15mins. Make a brew and check the news or something if you're not cleaning anything else on the car.

Then get 3 Palm sized wads of 00 (in your case 0000) per exhaust (so if the car has quad exhaust that would be 12 bits) and scrub each exhaust for about 1 min per wad. Do not wipe of any residue in between.

Once done apply another thin coating with your finger on exhaust and then scrub with 1 Palm sized wad of 0000 per exhaust with medium pressure. Again for about 1 min.

Then buff off with an old microfibre cloth and they should now be immaculate.

I can't find the before pics as I think they're on my laptop but these are some afters of cars I've detailed.

This was a 2007 Fabia vRS Diesel that when I started the exhaust was Matt black!

Here are some before. Part way through polishing and the end result from 3 solid days and a 2 stage machine pass. I removed about 85-90% of the defects. It amazes me how badly some people treat cars. :(

No problem for me - I love Porsche!

Pains me to see somebody looks like they'd cleaned it with a paving slab!!!

Cracking job though!

I need you to come and detail my car!!!!!

I would love to. But I move next week so unless you fancy a weekend away in North Yorkshire it would be a bit of a trek otherwise. :(
