Hi All ,

Thinking about adding a dashcam to my clk320 , as there are a lot of idiots driving about these days....

Does anyone have any knowledge or can recommend a type or model please ?

Cheers

Have a look at the Viofo A119 v2. It is reasonably priced, is really well rated and is the best image quality I have seen.

Why aren’t these getting fitted to new cars? Probably been discussed before...

I have the following;

Dual Channel - VIOFO A129 DUO. Great picture quality day/night, relatively compact and discreet and excellent reliability with support for a large memory card. Also you can run just the front camera if you wish and if/when you remove the camera it will not wear down electrical contacts as it mounts to

I also have the Nextbase 512g (basically a rebranded DOD unit). Again perfect picture quality and reliability.

I have been using various ones for probably some nearly 10 years, spent a good few thousand on the damn things. Basically, you want a f1.6 aperture (as it lets in more natural light and provides the picture quality) and also with the likes of the VIOFO, which has better higher frame rates, its better to play back and read the plate of a car that goes past quite quickly. I also look for a circa maximum 140 degree viewing angle as the maximum as anything more gives a serious unrealistic perspective of distances between objects. Also 1080p with high frame rates is perfect for the job in hand.

Other cameras I have / or have had and given away are;

Viofo A129 (seriously this is an exceptional bit of kit! great in every way)
Nextbase 512g (great picture quality, only does 30fps, great reliability and using these independently for front and rear)
Thinkware F50 (discreet, don't like the software, picture quality is just OK)
Thinkware F770 (not the best picture quality, don't the like the software, reliabile but over priced).
DOD LS430W (great picture, only does 30 fpms at 1080, great reliability)
DOD RC500 (great picture quality but, better off price wise with the VIOFO A129)
Mobius (I use this mounted in the front grill, to a battery source in the car for my parking mode)
Lots of others which were below par such as Philips, Transcend etc £30 - 150 units
