e320 cdi Starting Problem

I have found out that my battery was ok but the problem was the starting motor jammed. I got told to tap it with hammer and then my car started the first time. I got told if it happened again i will probably need a new starter motor. However Dont really know what caused starter motor to jam, could anyone think why? Also If i eventually need a new starter motor does anyone know the price range i would be looking at? Any help would be much appreciated,

Hard question, it could be just one of those odd things where it got stuck.

If it does it again then I think that it will have to be replaced, or at least removed and the pinion examined.
