The MB one is the best as it covers everything without question and all work is done by the dealer - but its obscenely expensive (around £600 per year from memory) and they want £200 for an inspection before they'll cover you.

I understand the AA do a very reasonable warranty.

I have one from Warranty Direct that covers all the expensive things so gearbox, ECU etc are all covered. I paid around £250 for the year.

I also have one from Warranty Direct. Recently my air con condensor packed up and they fixed it under warranty with no problems - but read the small print as to what is and what isn't covered!

Warranty Direct are a bunch of J*kers, I have a Gold level policy (car is 5 years old)..they refused point blank to pay for my Ignition switch...apperently it is not covered in the policy.

They told me that as it was not a listed part they would not cover it, but they do list electronic ignition systems as being covered in the policy document!! It cost me around £600 to get it fixed.

Instead of listing the parts they do cover, they should list the parts they do not cover!!

I wonder what else is not covered in the policy.....?

Also, their customer service is rubbish and needs improving.

The cover I have got (highest for a car which is over 3 years old) is not worth the paper it is printed on.

Try a different company.......

To be honest - its depressing but not surprising. If you look at the list of what is covered, it clearly doesn't cover they key switch (including it as part of the ignition system is stretching the definition). They are talking about the ECU and coil packs.

Its true that there are loads of cracks to fall down. I've had to pay out for £250 worth of ignition leads and I need a new instrument cluster that isn't covered either. I took it out just in case the ECU, gearbox or engine gave out. The MB was an aside - I covered the Jeep as 4wd systems that live on tarmac have a nasty tendancy to go bang and cost 1000's to put right. Not sure I'll renew on the Merc though as I've now gone over 60k so the percentage they pay out is falling.

I wish someone did a fully comprehensive warranty (no exclusions) but aside from the MB signature one at £600+ a go, I haven't found one. Include the fact that you probably have to use the dealer for servicing to keep it valid and its an expensive passtime.
