Hi guys first time Merc owner, first time auto owner, couple of times ive pressed the handbrake thinking it was the clutch and drove off forgetting the handbrake was on
Welcome to the forum, you'll soon get used to the quirky parking brake arrangement, I did and now find myself looking for it on other cars!!
You'll soon settle into auto too, just remember one simple thing, plant your left foot on the floor and leave it there, do nothing with it (Unless applying the parking brake)
Must admit it takes some getting used too been driving manuals for 25 yrs.
Not keen on the handbrake position forcing you to use your left foot and then release below the steering wheel. Think it's going to take a few weeks to get the hang of it.
Yes its odd to say the least, I sold my W211 a few months ago and I still find myself looking for the pedal in my Jag.
It always slightly concerned me that the position of the parking brake pedal could be a problem in an accident, I felt that with the foot on the rest the pedal could pierce the lower leg in a collision, but obviously they check all these things with dummies during the crash tests, or at least I hope they do!!
