I fitted these in September 2011,

They're still going strong. If others can give a little more light I don't feel the need for it as these are bright enough.
My preference is for the lower colour temperature (frequency). I find it more comfortable for me as there is less reflected glare from the high visibility road signs on dark roads, and they cut the fog better (here we get a lot of that). I would still be using 2700 kelvin but for the fact the green(ish) hue might cause questions from the plod.

The following charts the ageing process of these bulbs (if accurate)

For example if we take 4300K xenon bulb, in the beginning the colour is yellowish white, later it's bright white, then white with blue tint, then it goes pink and finally bulb dies.

C&P from EBAY seller.

I would say I am still at the yellowish light stage, I don't drive much at night maybe the original owner didn't either.

Just resurrecting this thread because I happened to come across a Philips data sheet about their own 6000K 'Ultinon' D2S lamp.

This is some of what it stated:

This greenish-yellow tinge is considered to be most unsightly in the aftermarket, a bluer light being strongly preferred. To satisfy this market Philips introduced this higher colour temperature 6000K lamp whose dose contains indium iodide to create extra blue light. Some 25% lumens are sacrificed which deters few end users, but does mean that the lamps are not street-legal in Europe or the USA. Consequently they are intended primarily for sale to the Asian aftermarket.

I don't think you'll go far wrong with those.

I've been using 5000K HIDs on a car with projector lamps, and the difference was vast compared to the halogen bulbs fitted, much safer night driving in my humble opinion, as I see things earlier affording me extra time to avoid if necessary.
I chose the 5K option after reading up on the effectiveness of the emitted light, it wasn't for its "bling" value at all, as others have said, 5K gives you a strong white light, no tinge of blue, and I will happily continue to use.
