Hi, I have a S350 which I love. Only thing is she is a bit naughty when it is cold weather ....... if it is below about 5 degrees will not unlock straightaway, then key will not turn. When she does start everything jiggles around and lights on dash ect flash on and off. If she is being extremely naughty will not come out of park.
As I said this only happens when it is very cold and never when the temp is above 7 degrees. Can be very annoying.
Have just had the messages etc cleared off the computer but still doing it.
Has anybody ever come across this before and any suggestions. Is a 2003 automatic.
Many thanks

Hello and welcome, the car needs to go on STAR to see if it is an EIS problem, the first thing the locking does when you unlock is to communicate with the EIS ignition switch, as the key does not turn the is something odd on this EIS switch, you could ask Mark here.

hi

Jily i am sorry i dont know much about your car.But i am sure you will get a response soon .And by the way, can i say welcome to the forum from me . One thing is to check all the earth straps ,clean them and grease them up.And check battery terminals,do the same with them . Remember if you remove the battery terminals you may loose the radio code and computer settings.

Hi many thanks for quick reply.

Understand what you are saying and think that this route has also been started.
Have you heard of this happening only when it is cold though ??
Thanks

I have it in the back of my mind that I have heard of this, we know that some EIS ignition switches work better when heated

Hi, car is being looked at this week, as it is going to be cold. Will tell them what has been suggested.
Probably will be a daft question but how would you heat the EIS. Funny thing is though I do keep the key somewhere warm as I found this does cut down the amount of time the car misbehaves!!
Another thing as well is when it is cold weather that once it has been started it is fine no matter how many times you stop and start.
Good job I love my car!!!!!
Thanks again for replies

Go to Maplins and buy a tin of circuit freezer and freeze the ignition switch and see if this replicates the fault, or wait for a cold day and warm the switch with a hairdryer and see if that helps, otherwise do what other have said get it connected to Star which should pinpoint the problem area.
