As some of you may know, alot of w124's with aircon are not factory fitted units and were infact retro-fitted when new at the dealers. I would say this is the case for a good 40% or so of 124's with aircon, and unless you look at the data card, or need to change the fan, you would never know. The bad bit is that to fit this they removed the whole dash, then heater box and then installed it from the inside, which means if your fan breaks, you have to do the same thing to remove it, many hours work which I didnt fancy.
So, Indy's look away now... this is what I did....
Remove the trim below windscreen and windscreen wiper mechanism.
You can now see the blower casing. On non-aircon models and factory aircon models this will now open with a few clips. On after-market aircon ones you cannot remove it from this side. I used an angle grinder to remove the top to reveal....
With the top removed you can now see the casing covering the twin motor. There are 4 screws at the top you can un-do, but then abit more cutting required at the bottom edge..
You can now see the motor itself, and with abit of wiggling you can remove it and un-plug it.
Although the replacement motor I had was the same, the connections weren't, so I had to cut the connectors off and re-join them. The new motor was then fitted as pictured.
It took abit of care to get it sitting properly and not rubbing on anything as it turned, but eventually it sat correctly and I screwed and taped in the 2 covers, and tested that it worked ok.
Abit more tape and the top cover was in place.. then just rebuild the wiper and trims etc.
Now have a fully functioning blower motor, it only took an hour, and I have a happy other half as well!
