Sorry Malcolm the chart was the boot chart.
I've emailed you direct a copy of front and back so you can print them off if they are of any use.

Regards

Stuart

That was fine Stuart and covers some of it, thank you

Today the sun was shining and I started to wonder if I had bought the best car that was on sale, and set off to look at a 88k mile 1997 CL420 priced at £3750 in Salisbury one of the dearest for sale. This one had a glass roof and nice grey leather. The wheels look OK with no faults but something odd, it did have the service book with 8 stamps

Peeing down with rain so could not really check for respray tell tale signs, so I got my meter out, the one that I have bought had roughly 180 microns.

My first check on a rear wing showed 470 and 980 on the wheel arch 290 on the door and up to 600 on the front wings. the salesman came out at this stage and I put the meter away, he asked if I was interested in the car, and I commented that the car looked wider than it should be and has any rust or accident damage been resprayed. Oh no he said "just well looked after" so I asked him why was the paint thicker on the rear wing than it should be. MB put a good coat of paint on the S class cars he said. So we drove back home again feeling better with what we had bought.

The central locking and soft close will give me something to do.
We will not pick it up now till the end of the month

Have I missed something? You changed your mind Malcolm about the silver one in Essex with black leather?

Now gone for something else?

Oh no,,, I just started thinking that was it good value,,I know what the cars are and seen plenty in my life,,but this one was the first one for sale that I looked at, so I thought I would check out one that was not that far from home.

I am happy again, but miserable just waiting till Dec 1st

Just waiting for the log book, the car was owned by the sellers deceased father, the private plate was difficult to take off the car as the son not the registered keeper, so he had to put the car in his name and now just waiting for the log book to come back.

This is the car, I saw it on the 2nd day and got it for a lot less

Hi Malc,

What a bonny looking motor, looks a picture in silver and the underbonnet area is startling for an old motor, a real touch of class for very little money well done mate, hope it turns out to be as good as it looks.;)

Alfie

I could have got a 215, but with all the problems with my 230 I just want to go back in time, so all the toys, but well proven technology in the main.

Thank you

So, Malcolm you've got your new addition to the Fleet and I read you are sorting a few teething problems -is the car as nice as you had hoped?

Yes I am loving the car,, PSE pump fixed at no cost with a new motor, so central locking and soft closing all fine now.

I have got the wheels off to be re furbished and new tyres as the old ones with the big V pattern were so noisy, got a spare set on from the SL but the tyres are too small, but fine for a few days.

It goes in on Wed for the little scrape on the front wing, it passed the test with 1 advisory in that the rear brake pipes are starting to rust so I will clean them all and rust proof them.

Got to work out now how to lift the center console to change over the phone holder, I already had the correct one. At the same time hard wire the SAT NAV

We both love the car, its so quiet and relaxing to drive and it does not hang around either, need to get it down to Cole for a fluid change on the box.

The whole thing is beautifully made :D:D

Someone else who recognises quality from yesteryear. Shame the new ones aren't a patch on this era.

Thats why I bought it Mike, I could have bought a much newer version,, MY 1999 SL was of the same build, and for all I paid for it it is a fabulous car to drive, sure I would have loved the 600 version, but with Lilian this is just perfect, she does not feel the speed in this unlike my SL.

It also the only car that I have had where she can go to sleep :D

Perhaps we should have a W140 get together sometime, maybe in the spring when the weather is a bit better.
