I need to be happier and content in my life first before I can relax etc in other things. And that won't happen anytime soon.
"This too will end" good to remind yourself with that at times when nothing is going well

A modern 2 litre 4 cylinder petrol engine can be capable of significant power and torque, more than enough to make for a relaxing journey when desired.
I have never owned or driven a V8 and probably never will, but I would love to experience it. :)
The point I am making is that engine capacity today does not have the same correlation with power and torque that it traditionally had.

I have found that it is me as a driver that has become much more relaxed as I have got older. :D
You need to try it at least once.
However, be aware that once you taste a V8, V12 or even a W12 you will always want more.

I've driven a lot of miles and I found a little 'test' helps ones driving style for a more relaxed experience! try to get to your destination without using your brakes other than to actually stop the vehicle! it teaches you to leave a gap in front and not be in a rush and anticipate traffic and changing conditions, I'm sure it's driving to a timetable that causes stressful driving, it works or me and when I see other vehicle brake lights on dual carriageways and motorways creating a concertina affect it sort of proves the point, the throttle modulates your speed, the brakes are for stopping!

It drives me to distraction the number of times I'm behind someone & they brake for no obvious reason ..... maybe a car coming from the opposite direction or a slight bend in the road

Fantastic advice.

If only everyone drove like that.

Aaah, the " I'm being overtaken so I'll speed up " fandango. Two possible causes for that. One is the "I'm not actually that much in control of myself or my car, or trained very well, but my subconcscious perceives a threat from behind so I will subconsciously speed up to escape it" routine. The other is that they are what an american friend of mine described as driving "HUA".

I've been struck in recent years by the number of drivers who "brake" seemingly entirely randomly, not seeing an approaching car or a slight bend in the road, but like I said, randomly. It's as if they're resting the side of their foot of the brake pedal. Brake lights come on, but no noticeable slowing of their car. They're usually older drivers, and my wife suggested it could be due to the phenomenon of ageing feet, their feet spread, they buy wider shoes, and pedals spaces are too cramped to accommodate them.

That's where an auto comes into its own ..... 2 feet ... 2 pedals ;)
