I have two cars, separate insurance for each.

At these crunch times and the height of insurance premium, I can drive only one car at a time, it more sensible to SORN one.

Question 1:Can I carry forward this about to expire insurance to start say March next year if I renew this insurance? Anyone tried this and will the insurance company allow this.

Question 2: If I dont renew this second policy will I lose all 15 years NCD?

i dont know the answers to all your questions , and mabey your ins company is the best to ask . but you used to have a couple of years grace with your noclaim bonus if you dident reinsure your car .this may have changed .but mabey the biggest thing to consider is while your car is off the road ,if anything was to happen ie theft or damage ,your car will be a loss and not covered . i kept my motorhome insured even though it was on sorn and not mot,d and did not use it for 7 or 8 months .if anything had have happend to it i could ill afford the loss . years ago you could drop from fully comp to tpft and the premium was less but not nowadays.

no insurance companies will offer TPFT for a Merc and if they do, it more expensive than for comprehensive

Not always, i save £120 a year on 3rd party only compared to fully comprehensive with a £1000 excess (as car isn't worth much more than £1,000 that's effectively 3rd party too)...the only way i can lose is if the windscreen gets chipped and i won't be covered, but i think it's worth the risk.

You have 2 year's grace with a no claims discount, so you can not renew your insurance now and instead renew it in march, but theres a new law saying car must be sorned as soon as insurance runs out.

what you can't do so easily (even if on pay monthly) is stop a policy half way through it's duration - they do pro rata the amount you are due back but most incurr a £50-£100 cancellation fee which can wipeout most of the amount you are due back.

In which case the best idea is to talk to them rather than have us all try to second guess they way they think

Never had any joy with any of these Insurance Companies that support various forums. Previous cars have been Jaguars and Volvo,s S Type R's and T5's never paid more than £360 per anuum for any of them. Others like Flux, and others have always been £300 more.
