Hi there. I've just purchased a SL280. 1985, c reg. This is my only car as live in London. Estimated annual mileage 3-4k. Age 33. Any recommendations for decent, value for money insurance. The non specialists are quoting between £750-£1000 pa. thanks. Brad

We could put this on a classic policy for you due to the low mileage (so long as it's not used for daily commuting). Occasional commuting is fine. Or we can put it on an everyday policy.

My wife and I had a good price from Admiral on our two cars.

If you can prove the mileage then always mention that, otherwise its assumed that you'll be doing around 15k miles per annum.

I'd also ask about vehicle security measures that may reduce the cost.

By restricting the mileage to 5000k (which I can prove), my insurance on an SL500 is £20 more than my Golf 2.0tdi.

Yes sorted. Went through Adrian flux. Situation slightly complicated as my NCB is 2 years 1 month old. So had expired unknown to me! Sorted now though. Thanks everyone

Had a phone around this afternoon for insurance. Very few do a true multi-car policy, they claim to give discounts on other cars if they're all insured with them. One insurer quoted £890 & another £1200 just for the R320 - I'm 50 with 3 points for a SP50.
I think I'll be re-insuring with my current insurers ..... 2 of us, driving R320, 3.0 Omega & a Smart for £902

Did you try MBO Insurance? Again, we're not a true multi-car company but we offer discounts for multiple cars - we've had success in saving members money.

Without knowing the individual case I can't comment on the rationale for offering that price but it could be for any number of reasons.

It's fair to say that we won't be the best option for 100% of members but we'll always try to negotiate the best rate with insurers for you. Sometimes we win, sometimes we don't.

However, within the last 2 months we have quoted a member from another prestigious club for all 7 of his cars (some were classics). Admiral wanted £2150 under their multi-car policy. We quoted them individually for a total of £1650 - with one insurer. A saving of £500!!
