When my 300CE 24 is stone cold (first gearchange of the day) it seems to hang on to 1st or 2nd gear too long.  The revs come up to 3000 or so before it changes up.  After this first change, it is perfectly smooth and all later take offs from rest the change is at around 2000 revs.

I've checked the transmission fluid and it's at the correct level.

Should I panic ??

Hi Steve,

If your vehicle fitted with a catalyst. Then this is the reason it hangs onto second gear when pulling off from cold. If I am correct, when it gets warm all the changes should be ok.

The reason for the extended gear change is to aid the warm up period of the kat.

Hi Steve,

Its just a feature of the later cars. Around the kat version of the 24v's and later! Your vehicle doesn't come into the range. A little too early
