Will I be able to leave the engine in the engine bay and remove the pistons to do piston and rings ? My timing chain is on back of engine don't want to be pulling engine out as I don't have equipment wondering if I time the engine if there's anyway I can do it all with the block still in place unless subframe or something would get in way thanks

Good question.

Highly recommend just pulling the engine.

Why are you removing the pistons?

Big job pulling the engine haven't got a crane and all, blue smoke from exhaust when accelerating and first start up was gonna do valve stem seals and piston rings. Just hit 200,000 so had its abuse

And if you pull the head to find a scored liner?

You may be able to remove from the top after undoing con rod bolts in situ but it's going to be tight.

Never thought of that hoping it's just piston rings, that's what I was thinking if I could remove the head with chain at back without taking engine out then can remove pistons out of top. Read somewhere that when they change the chain they can do it on car but to change the chain tensioner and guides its an engine out job ill see what a specialist would charge rather do it myself though

Is the Head flat faced. Can stem seals be done with head on?
