All I will say is, its not a simple job for a novice, even a sunday diy guy can cause himself some real probs, if your unsure, don't touch it.......

its finally off :D thanks for the pointers it helped a great deal my only problem now is do i replace whole manifold and motor or just manifold, is there anyway of testing the motor now its off the car? a couple of the the guides that open/close the flaps have snapped and the manifold its self is gunked up, also the arm from the motor that controls the guides has disconnected its self buts looks like the damage is on the flap guides and not the motor arm, if i can learn how to upload a pic i will, i owe it to you guys though this is a great site with useful info. cheers again any more info recommendations will be great

Hi smiffyc270,

Any change you can share your steps on removing the inlet manifold?

I own a G270CDI with 300k and want to clean/replace the inlet and remove the flaps as suggested by Alex Crow. Thanks

Manifold Fluid issue (post still alive?)

Hi Guys,

First of all thanks to all the posters, I've read this and a number of other threats several times and the insight is very helpful. I'm a complete rookie in DIY engine repair, so I'm basically feeling my way on this one.

Now to my issue, which I hope you can help me with. I have the problem of "limp mode", from what I can tell related to the inlet manifold oil spill issue. I've already cleaned the EGR, changed the oil separator and the air flow sensor and the issue is still there.

My engine is covered in oil and there were a lot of oil in the EGR, also second time I cleaned it (opened it twice (in situ) as I didn't have the proper cleaner the first time). Now, some people say it is a hell of a job for a rookie, but the thing is my ML 270 has 260k km on it and a bit of rust coming, so basically I don't want to spend any money on it at all.

The question is, would I be able to resolve the limp mode issue by simply cleaning the manifold flaps (I nkow, still a large job), and then get rid of the car (can't sell it as long as it's in limp mode) or do I have to get the new parts to really fix it?

If I have to do the job, could anyone help describe if there are any fluid which will spill and would have to be replaced as part of the process? I can't find any details on this in the thread(s). Thanks a bunch!!!

Hi guys bit of a thread revival. My parters ML270 has an oil leak down the side of the block. A guy who owned one of these said its possible to remove the motor wiring and attach a resistor to the terminals to stop the operation of the motor but also fool the ecu into not going into limp mode. Anyone know what size resistor would be suitable?

The swirl flap/inlet port motor resistor bypass is 4.7kohm , but I'm not sure what the oil leak has to do with this ?

The oily gunk in the inlet manifold leaks out past the flap spindles and down the side of the block, makes a right mess depending on how long it's been doing it. Had to scrub the whole area with petrol and then degreaser before refitting on mine.
