Hi all, joined this forum last year when I took dlivery of my new E Class but I've also just picked this up. You'll all know more about it that I will and hopefully that remains the same for a long time as that'll mean it won't have required me to work on it that much. ;)

It's had a couple of mods, one I love and one I don't. Can you guess which is which ?

Hi Malcolm, you are everywhere !

Yes, lowered and exhausted. The first one is great, the second one not so. The pipes are fitted well but need the amg bumper I expect to sit properly. Quite a drone too but that's livable given it's not my daily driver.

Nice reg came with it though :)

Welcome from a local. I'm in Hamilton and have the newer version of your vehicle, owned the same car a few years ago, still a beautiful shape.

Yes it's a timeless shape eh?

In the honeymoom period with it just now but this weather kinda makes me default into the E class.

I'm tempted to get the wood painted up in the CL, seems not too hard and such a dramatic change. Anyone done it recently and locally do you know ?

The wood can be stripped and 2 pack clear coated, I have done quite a bit of this type of work.

I've found pics on here showing that Malcolm, but no write ups.

Reading into your other posts Malcolm, you mention it can take you around 5-7 days to do this job ?

I assume you have the facility to do this ?

I could probably do without the car for that period but it would be easier in the spring (get the Z3 out of hibernation). Can you give me an idea of costs if I was to remove everything and post it down to you ?

Welcome fellow CL driver! If you have a look on this forum for "my CL500 project" you'll see one that had all of the wood trim stripped out and wrapped in carbon fibre effect. Done very well indeed too.

My problem is I am trying to move house, so the next few months are out of the question. The cost depends on how many parts and the condition of the parts. Most of the time scale is waiting for the 2 pack to finish curing.

As Craig, vinyl wrap is an alternative.

Ah, moving house is far more important.

Vinyl wrap, in my experience, is not as lasting.

I may get time in between, some pictures of what needs doing would help.

whilst the wrap perhaps is less drable, it does however, mean that if the car is a long term keeper, you can easily update the looks inside without huge expense or being without the car for longer periods.

there is also the option of hydro-dipping the trims in question.

It would be all wood, changed to black. No need for filler etc, just a colour change. Its all in excellent condition.

Hi,
I've just clocked up my first thousand miles in my CL500, like yours mine has the droney AMG pipes, I've sourced a good pair of original rear boxes, and will get them fitted ASAP, that drone is worst at 1200-2000 rpm, right where most of your day to day driving is done, it sounds awesome above 2k but, not for living every day with...

Ps I like the monoblock wheels :) they look really good.

Hi Flyinspanner,

I relate to your pain. Luckily mines is a toy so no daily commute with it.

It's also not a genuine amg back box conversion on mine I don't think, just a decent welders job.

Yeh wheels are absolutely spotless. Was a good result getting the car with these done already. Reg plate is cool to I think.
