My manual 190e has a "hissing" noise when the clutch pedal is up (ie engaged) anyone like to tell me if this is an expensive fix? The engagment of clutch/gears is rather jerky when cold esp in first and second...

Sounds like a thrus bearing. The jerky bit sounds like oil on the clutch drive plate .I think a new clutch is on your xmas list. When you take the gearbox out check the rear crankshaft seal for oil leaks... Hope this helps....

As said above replace release bearing, pressure plate and clutch itself cos its not worth the effort just replacing one of these items.

I agree, would repace the entire. Should last quite a few years.

The oil though may require some investigation, is oil getting onto the clutch plate? Engine crankshaft seal?

Totally agree fit a three in one clutch assembly the only other thing I would do if the friction plate does not have any oil contamination on it I would get the flywheel skimmed just in case the surface is distorted a little

Just browseing GSF and I see they list two possible clutch kits one has "26 spl" the other has "10 spl" and is quite a bit cheaper. Are "spl" splines?

M18905--CLUTCH KIT-215mm 26spl---201: 190E 2.0 102.961 102.962 10/82>08/93 (Ch.A028896> Ch.F000523>)--85.00

M18935--CLUTCH KIT-215mm 10spl---201: 190E 2.0 102.961 102.962 10/82>08/93 (>Ch.A028895 >Ch.F000522)--57.00

Does this mean I have to check how many splines my car has on the input shaft?

Mike.
