Question re TMC

I have an E320CDI Elegance Estate, first registered in September 2005. The COMAND system came with an APS V4.1 DVD (non-TMC).

I often discussed upgrading to a TMC enabled DVD with the service manager at my local dealer who informed me I would also need an upgrade to the COMAND software as there would be a problem with the TMC - something to do with queuing traffic appearing on the wrong side of the road. He even gave me a quote for the software upgrade - £60 + VAT.

I have now bought the APS V5.1 DVD and indeed queuing traffic does sometimes appear on the wrong side of the road (most noticable on a motorway). However, my contact has now left the dealership and no one there knows what I am talking about. Can any members shed any light on this?

Hello,

Version 5.1 supports TMC (supposedly!). However you should have the firmware update applied to the comand as this does sort out the queueing traffic issue. Your dealer shouldn't really charge you for this as its a fix under warranty. After all the unit is not functioning correctly;) If you bought the car from a Mercedes delaer then take it back and ask them to fix it under warranty. All it needs is the comand firmware to be flashed to the latest level.

£60 sounds like 1/2 hour labour to me. The flashing itself takes eight minutes.

Where abouts in the country are you?

I dont have the actual version number to hand.

All you need to do is ask them to show you the version of the firmware on the comand when they have it hooked up to their STAR system. Ask them to flash the comand with the April (latest) version of the code. Watch the flashing take place. It takes 8 minutes and there is a progress bar which shows on the screen.

Thanks for the offer. If I don't get anywhere with the local dealership I might just take you up on it and make a special trip down south.
