1) Not unless she is Nicola Sturgeon
2) They can’t avoid reporting it
3) Possibly
4) That finished in the 1980’s

As long as you realise that in this country 99% of Police Officers are decent people doing a thankless job as best they can . I know because I was one .

We actually have a family friend whom we understood was a retired inspector turns out he was not retired but was involved in a legal dispute with the Police force that he used to work for which he won next thing we know he and his wife are moving counties as he had a nice new position as Super Attendant with a nice compensation package seems the whole thing was over a stroppy coloured WPC who thought because she was black the rules did not apply to her and when she refused to obey a straight forward order he disciplined her she complained to the Black Police Officers Association who took up her case and the inspector was told off ordered to apologise and this was marked down on his record which he refused to accept and took them to court and won but rather than be reinstated he moved forces with a nice little promotion. He said he would stay to get his maximum pension then leave as the Police was no longer the organisation they he joined he had been in long enough to go through the miner strike.

One of my very first girlfriends was the daughter of a Police sergeant and one of my friends in the Cubs and later scouts was the son of a police officer that was around 50 years ago and the police were totally different then in my teens we had a pair of rotten apples in our local station then eventually got booted from the force as they were caught red handed assaulting a boy of about 12 years old. They told the couple who caught them that there was nothing they could do about but boy were they wrong as it turns out he was a retired home office chappie of some standing. I also used to shoot and stalk with a serving armed officer and his force treated him very poorly just because he belonged to a civilian gun club and shot with them and as he pointed out the Police gave them hardly any range time at all. I also shot in competition at Lippets Hill (London's Met Police training place) 3 years running that was before the stupid and useless pistol ban still have the lapel pins from those.

It was not until a relocation to Eastern England that I really encountered really corrupt police.

is required to give her name & address plus registration number to the other party, damage only RTC.
If the other party is not there report it to the police as soon as practicable, the police will then inform the other party.
I would now ring/email the police for her details, & if not supplied make a formal complaint.
The garage check's outcome will depend on what action I will need to take. I've just remembered that I might have legal assistance, which I will use if there is damage that needs repair, to recover costs up to my excess.

Regarding the Road Traffic Act, clearly that still stands and the info you quote needs to be exchanged between the parties involved. However, if Police are involved they seem to be governed by their interpretation of the GDPR Regs which limit what they can disclose. What bugs me is that initially, they weren't interested in the bump and still aren't as they haven't done a Crime Report (so they say); they have only dealt with the insurance matter.

I suggest that in the first instance either make a Freedom of Information Act application and also complain to the local Police & Crime Commissioner .

Thank you for that advice; it is useful information to have, both now and for myself and others who find themselves in this situation in the future.

Thank you too, to all who have contributed to this thread. I will update the outcome of what, if any damage there is to my towbar after Tuesday.

If you have legal then your insurance company should just get on and do it for you, let them fix any damage and claim it back from the 3rd party

On one hand police do a thankless task on the other they are happy to do work (no work) thats easy for them and gets rid
off thier paperwork.

A year ago I was assulted by an Irish Gypsy from nowhere. Called the police and waited 3 hours -
didnt come, took all details over the phone and done nothing. absolute nothing and this Irish Gypsy was a known thug to them.

6 months back my german shepard puppy scratched someones hand with his teeth (he was a teething pup). if any of you has dogs you know this is all puppies do. thier mouth's are like our hands. had the cops at my house nearly 6 hours in a day. trying to insinuate he was a dangerous dog, then they wanted to take him away (no doubt for a police dog), then they wanted a control order. in the end i said i am a lawyer and i will talk to friend who specialises in this area - the cops left and i heard nothing since.

Police are not what they used to be. Has the woke culture changed them, is it corruption. is it power.

who knows. if your a good boy you wont have any hassle

Jeez what an experience. Priorities seem to vary from force to force, the time of day, and individual officers. Maybe the 6 hours spent was a way of sciving? I would have shown them the door after at the most 20 minutes.

I will say I have nothing against the police and that there are good/bad in all walks of life from cleaners to kings.

My personal dealings with the police have been fair and good overall.

For me, it was the police who instantly saw through my ex’s lies and turned the tables with a bunch of narcissistic social workers who hated a squeaky clean man. My ex called the cops to have me arrested for no wrong doing yet had been concocting and framing me over 2 years (unknown to me at the time). In 30 mins after chatting to me, they arrested her where, via their further questioning over several days, my ex’s lies just further proved her previous false allegations and my innocence and wrapped herself up in tighter knots. Then 2 years of these narcissist women’s groups trying to play the system and further attempts to have me wrongly arrested were all futile. The police men and women told me to protect myself and had these measure of this lot from the start. 2 years of delays and all the evidence being ordered in between, horrifically brought to light without doubt that me and my daughter were being used (to say the least). An experienced judge destroyed them, giving me and daughter our lives back and found the ex to ‘have falsified all her allegations over and above the threshold required by a crown court for sentencing’. But, she avoided prison as it’s a civil matter yet, I’m entitled to fvck all to claim in anyway against all the foul play from the ex and her associates against me and my daughter, even when they assaulted my daughter during a supervised contact visit for the mother to try and frame me having inflicted harm to my daughter! Here the police and social services turned up pronto, I showed them the pics I’d taken ahead of the visit when I dropped my daughter off (this is the lengths I have to go to), so any injury is clearly inflicted by them! They did nothing! If that was us blokes, as the cops said, we’ll have been locked up at the start and have to prove our innocence. Well, I’ll let the law of karma slap them when it sees fit.

I do get that for smaller things, which, aren’t small to us why it can seem they do nothing. As some of my personal security team are ex police men and women, they said that sadly the police prioritise their work dealing with the more serious stuff first and they are genuinely understaffed.

If I have understood this correctly your car looks fine but for peace of mind it needs throwing on a ramp and checking.

I cannot see why this can't be done for some multiple of tenners and 5 minutes of ramp time.

After that hopefully you can just forget about it.

Pursuing the legal route is a right royal pain in the backside.

Just to round off this thread, there was no damage found on my car , so that was the end of that.

However, I foolishly informed my insurers, for their 'information', of the incident which they recorded. This pushed my renewal up by around £200; so not very happy as I now have to declare it to any new insurer.

Many thanks to all who contributed to the thread.

Unfortunately you have to inform your insurers, I would be speaking to any insurer and shopping around then call then and discuss, they have loads of discount codes to use in the "customer Retention" department
