Rear Wheel Bearings on 560 SEL

I live in Mexico, and I don't have a Mercedes dealer nearby. My 1986 560 SEL has 330,000 miles and the left rear wheel bearing seems loose. My friendly mechanic has not been able to remove it, he has no factory tools. So far we've made a mess. Is it possible to remove it? I have found replacement bearings, but of course they don't do any good if we can't take the old ones out. Is it possible to remove with normal tools? Thanks.
