Hi all,

So, I have a newly acquired R230 shown below.. there is some rust on the rear arches. It's not apparent that it's very bad from the outside (at least not obvious), but who ever knows until you peel it back.

While I am very much a DIYer, this type of body work is not something I would like to attempt myself.

Can anybody recommend a business in the south west that could sort me out. I am base in SW London, so anywhere in London is doable and also anywhere in the south or south west of the UK, if the there is a significant discount to be had.

I would rather a trip out of London in the fine motor as opposed to paying it in London premium fees.

While i'm here, i'll post a couple of snaps of the rust also.

Does anybody have any ideas of cost for this kind of thing. I've been reading figures of about 200 - 250 per arch?

Many thanks
Conor

The last two photos show some bubbling on the boot lid and also from the roof. Will get these sorted also.

Very nasty. Can't recommend a paintshop around London, but getting the arches resprayed is just cosmetic.

The cause is water/crud between the inner and outer panels where they join. Get these areas cleaned out and treated with rust inhibitor, or the problem will repeat itself.

And it will be prudent to closely examine all the under body areas.
Rust does not confine itself to the parts you can see!

Interesting.. so do you think this is a big deal then?

I do believe the rust originates from the area between the arch liner and the body, silt sits in there and the moisture is drawn from elsewhere?

I do imagine the grinder will have to start back where the sun don't shine...

We had ours done by Reflex Auto Design (just behind GSF in Daventry). Absolutely superb job but it wasn't cheap @£800 or so.

When the rust gets as visible as mine, does that indicate a high chance of a lot of damage internally?

Both our wheel arches were done on our Jasper Blue SL and cost around £500 for both arches. You could be looking up £1000 for all the work on boot lid and pillar's if you want a top job. ;)

Ok let's see how it pans out. I think it will be money we'll spent either way..

Lets just hope there isn't much rot inside the arches too....
