Hi

I need to get some roof bars for my coupe for the odd load that doesn't fit inside.

I've looked at the Thule system but I'm wondering if this fits to the screw points in the roof or does it just clamp to the window area?

Any help would be most gratefully recieved, or if you are looking to sell some original bars for a coupe please pm me or leave a message.

regards

Graham

I agree, thats what the wifes car is for usually. But in this case its the odd time when we go off for a long weekend or something I want to fit a small roof box for the the hundred and one items of clothing my wife wants to bring.

I'm sorry if I've offended any female owners out there, but if you knew my wife you'd understand.

Is there any type of towbar you'd recommend. I've seen an advert for a Brink detachable towbar which looks quite good and also one from Bosal.

cheers

I would go for the detachable one and when your not towing the car looks good.

For some reason MB say do not fit a towbar if you have sports suspension, unless you have self levelling suspension. That means I can't have a towbar. Is that strictly true?

I should add that this is for a 300Ce-24 sportline. It specifically states (in the handbook) that the towbar may only be fitted to non-sports suspension models unless the vehicle also has self-levelling suspension.

A conversation at the dealers confirmed this was the official line. The service dept said that the towball would be set too low for one thing, and there was another point that I can not now recall.

I can live with the towball being 30mm too low. It would think it could be a problem with a double axle trailer/caravan, but not with a single axle. It does seem a very odd restriction to have.

towbar

I saw that on the manual for my 'burnt to death 300ce'. It is because of the low height the towbar would be continuosly pulling down the trailer on a twin axle trailer. There is a max. & min. height for lots of these trailers, so that both wheels stay on the road. Too low a towbar would mean that the back wheels would not be touching the ground under certain conditions. It would be ok if it was only a single axle light trailer but I imagine if a towbar was fitted anyone might unwittingly pull a 1000kg trailer on. Liability may be an issue also, and I'm sure it would invalidate your insurance.

PS. There used to be an add for our lotto. In it this farmer wins millions. He wants to stay farming, so he gets this Lamborgini Diablo with a trailer for bringing the hay to the cows. That was the only time I saw a Diablo with a tow bar and it is lower than a 300ce sportline.

PS PS Did you know Lamborgini made tractors before cars.
