I have a 1995 C250 Diesel Auto. When it changes from 1st to 2nd it really bangs into gear. The other gear changes seem quite smooth. It seems to be worse when accelerating slowly. Is this going to be expensive?:(

Exactly as Malcolm says, a vacuum problem. Check all the pipes are on properly around the IP.

An ATF and filter change wouldn't go a miss either! :)

Thanks
I am new to this car. Where exactly are the vacuum pipes I should be checking?

If you look at the diagrams of the engine and gearbox in the link that I put, every pipe is on the pictures and they are the ones to check.

I've posted before, mine does this too. It seems to me to be a bit like the drifting to the left thing that some mercs suffer from and some don't but MB wont admit is a problem.

I have only driven 2 Mercs, my 2003 C240 and a loan 2006 C220 and both were as bad as each other. Nasty lumpy gear changes at the bottom end and fine for the last couple of gears.
