Well, it proves its saves money.
Daughters Mini R56 threw up the engine light yesterday.
Scanned on OBD and reported cylinder three misfire.
Took coil pack out of cylinder three and fitted to cylinder two, cleared faults, came back as cylinder two misfire.
So daughter going off today to get another one and i will fit tonight.

If it had gone to a dealer, £100 for diagnosis, £100 for parts and fitting.
Me, £25 for new coil pack.

guess its a non mb if used on a mini
You can use the MB V2 to diagnose engine faults on any car with OBD2. You can only access other ECUs on Mercedes vehicles.

Good to hear and it’s repaid the purchase cost in one use.

I’m still puzzling over which OBD2 scanner to buy so posts like this are very useful

That's very interesting, what vehicle do you set to be read with your scanner when attempting to read a vehicle other than an MB?

Better still if you have a lovely neighbour who will scan for free, only problem is when he scans is there are hundreds of pounds of faults  when you are only looking for 1 fault

ok, its the MB2, dedicated to MB, however, any car with an engine management light on can be read using the OBD setting.
It cannot read any other modules, this is the third "fix" i have used it for on other car engines.
If i were to buy another one, i would go for the "pro" as can be used on a lot of cars.

Oh, its a non turbo Mini Cooper R56

On mine there is a separate entry for general ODB2 reading e.g. selected before you get to the vehicle selection part.

Well I couldn't remember so I just went out and plugged my MB V2.0 (NOT MB II) scanner into my car and found an OBD2/EOBD Icon, well as they say, "every day is a learning day" :)

It looks like I have an ABS speed sensor on it’s way out according to the message on the dash Saturday morning so I’ve ordered an iCarsoft CR PRO from UK Parts Direct so it will be interesting to see how it performs

Great job, I love the look of the CR Pro versus the MB specific one.

UK Parts Direct had an offer on which I thought I’d missed out on as their website indicated they were sold out yesterday but rang them this morning and a new batch has arrived so should be delivered tomorrow. The fact that it can read multiple brands was a clincher for me paid £210 delivered in the end. I must have been looking for a code reader for a year or so now but the clone situation had been putting me off so better to use an official distributor IMO - I’ll update on how I get on
