Your Mercedes
CL500 09/09 (2010 my M273 Engine) Now completed 40K Palladium/Black
In my twenties (1970's) I saw a 220SEB coupe in Torquay belonging to an entertainer and that started me off with Mercedes. I subsequently owned three of those vehicles, together with a 220SE fin tail for spares and also a 250CE.

All of these were used as everyday cars and led to many other "simple classics"

I now wish to drive a vehicle that gives me pleasure. For the last 14 years
I have had a A4 B6 model with full leather and auto gearbox that has always
been reliable and seems as good as the day I bought it, and am therefore taking time to find the right vehicle.

Aesthetics rather than performance is my main criteria and I have extensively researched the following cars:-

Bentley Arnage Green Label 4.4 (When viewing seemed just too big)

BMW 520D Tourer (F11) (Excellent, Practical but just another BMW)

Range Rover Sport 2010 facelift (As above)

Mercedes CL500 W216 (2007-10)

Have not yet viewed one but seems to answer all my requirement, have been
looking at countless reviews, videos and specification schedules

Mercedes CL500 W216 (2010-14)

As above, but from pictures I am not so keen on the new front wings which
seem less pronounced, however this seems to be compensated by the new engine and other revisions.

I would definitely prefer the AMG package design. The older version seems
to be priced between £15k to £27k whilst the later one starts at mid £30's.

I need to view both models in order to be sure that I like it in the flesh as with other cars I am usually disappointed. There are not that many about with my preferred colour combination and options and also within reasonable distance.

The one no-no for me is black coachwork or black interior. Whenever I see
a good model car with either of these, I feel that all the detail is lost without
contrast. Even when looking at photographs, it is very difficult to see recesses, stitching, shadow lines, any depth whatsoever on black.

Only my opinion, but I have always thought that black neutralises any vehicle
and have been mystified by its popularity.

I have recently gone to the trouble of extending my double garage by a further 3 metres in order to accommodate a larger car and that will be finished within the next fortnight.

I will be then on the hunt to see Mercedes CL500's and hope I will at last be
able to relax, instead of being stressed out with indecision.

Any advantages or drawbacks experienced by other members who have travelled a similar path would be a welcome read.
